Cake design journey
In less than 2 years she has become an industry-influencer and is creating cake masterpieces receiving more than 200K views on her posts. A few years ago, she found her calling somewhere in the middle — or some would say, somewhere outside of her original "spectrum". Cynthia has combined her love for the fine arts, cakes and botanicals by portraying her signature free-flowing petals and exploring new mediums along the way.
It started at her daughter's birthday event. She got a lot of praise on the cake she designed and was encouraged to share her hobby with the world. She finally decided to launch her Instagram account, originally "@cynzcakes" back in March 2017. Her feed was a bit like a creative draft or journal.
"The Instagram community was very responsive - I had less than 30 followers when I started, most of them family and friends. I believe it is the perfect social media platform to share your experimentation and progression."
As a product designer, she quickly knew she needed to find her niche. Naturally, she applied her R&D process and started to refine her posts, work on her branding etc... to reach her specific audience and find product-market fit. Her current mediums include painting on fondant and Swiss Meringue buttercream, crafting florals with gum paste, wafer paper and Italian crepe paper. She also enjoys pottery, painting, embroidery and knitting.
"I see nature as my recipe. I want to study it, sculpt it, smooth it, elevate it and capture it. Basically I want to handcraft its every delicate detail and shape it into a blossoming edible composition."
She finds herself today on Instagram with an international following of over 100K loyal fans across the globe. She launched her first online cake decorating course "Modern Cake Painting" with ifimade after receiving high demand in learning her signature style and techniques.
